Fireplace Installation

You will require a Fireplace Installation Permit if you are installing a gas or a solid fuel (wood stove or wood burning) fireplace.

For gas fireplaces, you will also require a Gas Permit for connecting it to the natural gas source. Only a licensed contractor, with a valid Journeyman's Gasfitter Certification, can obtain a gas permit.

Who can apply?

Only a licensed contractor can apply for a fireplace installation permit. If you are a contractor requiring a City of Red Deer Business Licence, please visit our Licensing page before submitting your permit application.

Step 2: Site inspections

What inspections will I need?

For a gas fireplace installation, you will need one Safety Codes inspection during the course of your fireplace installation:

  1. A final inspection prior to concealing; framing and venting must be installed

For a solid fuel fireplace installation, you will need two Safety Codes inspections during the course of your fireplace installation:

  1. A rough-in inspection before prior to concealing
  2. A final inspection when installation is complete

You will be required to correct all deficiencies. Re-inspection fees or other penalties may apply.

How do I schedule an inspection?

*Inspections must be scheduled by 3 p.m. to book for the following business day.
