On Oct. 22, 2025, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a call to assist Red Deer Fire Department, who were responding to a fire near the Oxbow Dog Park on 40 Ave, south of 19 Street. The exact nature of the fire and potential for suspects was not known.
At 1:08 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call reporting possible gunfire at the location. Multiple RCMP units immediately responded, led by General Duty members. One male was located nearby and detained by police for questioning. No firearms were located on this male or in the area, which was searched by police, with the assistance of Police Dog Services (PDS) and the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). The male was later released without charges.
Police located several propane tanks at the site of the fire, which are believed to have caused a small explosion which sounded like gunshots.
RCMP and Red Deer Fire continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

Red Deer, Alta. – Red Deer RCMP is advising that the police incident is now over. RCMP initially responded to a firearms complaint, where someone thought they heard gunshots. Due to a quick response, it was determined that the “shots” were propane tanks exploding as a result of a bush fire in the area. The fire has be extinguished.
