New Exhibition at the Viewpoint Gallery: Undertow – Women I’ve known

November 24, 2021 3:16 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Undertow – women I’ve known, a series of mixed media portraits by Susan Delaney is the newest exhibition presented at the Viewpoint Gallery.

Susan Delaney’s exhibit features a series of acrylic and mixed media portraits on canvas, wood and paper. In her artist’s statement, Delaney says she finds herself drawn to working with images of people, mostly women in her family of origin, and herself. There is a strong autobiographical theme in this body of work that uses photographic imagery to reflect themes of history and memory

Delaney says, “I find there is a kind of artefacty soul in the fact of a photograph that just can’t be captured in a drawing or painting, however close the likeness.” For her, working on the portraits and responding to the finished pieces can be a never-ending experience of discovery. She hopes to evoke a similar soulful current in the mind of the viewer.

The gallery will be open for extended hours on First Friday, December 3 until 6:30 p.m. with the artist in attendance.

The exhibition is presented at the Viewpoint Gallery until December 23, 2021.
