Red Deer 2021 tax notices are on their way

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Red Deer property owners can expect to receive their 2021 property tax notices in their mailboxes and inboxes soon as The City is sending them out today.

Property tax notices were mailed earlier than usual this year to give owners more time to plan and make payment arrangements. Property owners who do not receive their tax notice by the third week of May should contact Revenue & Assessment Services at 403-342-8126 or tax@reddeer.ca.

The 2021 tax payment deadline is June 30, and late payment penalties will be applied to unpaid tax account balances on July 1. The City reduced tax penalties to provide relief to those facing financial challenges. Rather than 7 per cent on July 1 and September 1, penalties will be reduced to 3.5 per cent for 2021. Those who are facing financial challenges are encouraged to pay what they can by the deadline to reduce penalties on any unpaid tax balance.

While City Hall remains closed to the public, property owners looking to pay in person will need to pay through their financial institution. The City does not have in-person customer service available at this time. Payments can also be made by mailing a cheque or placing a cheque and the detachable portion of their tax notice into the drop box at City Hall.

Property owners may also consider signing up for the Tax Instalment Plan (TIP) for automatic monthly payments from now to December. Property owners can join TIP using the online form until June 15 at reddeer.ca/TIP.

More information about Red Deer’s property tax program, including ways to pay, is available on The City’s website at reddeer.ca/tax.
