Red Deer is saying thank you and farewell to Superintendent Gerald Grobmeier, Officer in Charge of the Red Deer RCMP detachment, who will retire on December 16.

With 29 years of service with the RCMP, six of which in Red Deer, Superintendent Grobmeier has served as Officer in Charge of the Red Deer detachment since 2019.

“Thank you, Superintendent Grobmeier, for your leadership and service to our community,” said Ken McMullen, General Manager of Development and Protective Services for The City. “We are grateful for your dedication to Red Deer, working closely with the City and community partners to address the needs of our citizens and businesses.”

Superintendent Grobmeier spearheaded Red Deer’s PINPOINT program, a crime reduction initiative designed to target prolific and repeat offenders. Under his leadership, the Red Deer detachment also launched the CAPTURE program, which allows residents and businesses to register security cameras and allow RCMP to request footage to assist with investigations, and Garage529, a bike registry designed to deter bike theft and ensure return of any bicycles which are stolen and recovered.

“I am proud to have seen the Red Deer detachment become a leader in the District, in the Division and Nationally,” said Superintendent Grobmeier. “I am honoured to have served this wonderful community, and it has been a pleasure for my family and I to call Red Deer home.”

Through his time as Officer in Charge, Superintendent Grobmeier helped the Red Deer RCMP develop lasting relationships with many community groups, fostering an informed and shared approach to crime prevention initiatives and improving police connections within the community.

“We are grateful for Superintendent Grobmeier’s service to our community and wish him all the best in his retirement,” said McMullen.

An Interim Officer in Charge will be announced by RCMP while a permanent Officer in Charge is selected.
