Westerner Days Parade
2025 Parade Information
Westerner Day kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16 with the annual parade in downtown Red Deer. Please take a moment to view this year's map, find the perfect spot to watch the parade, and make a plan - 2025 Westerner Days Parade Route (pdf).
Road Closures
Many people head out to watch the parade, so it's important to get there early. To accommodate the large amount of traffic, and to keep parade participants and spectators safe, several roads will be closed during the morning of parade day. If you choose to drive down to watch the parade, please plan to get downtown before the road closures begin. Closures along the parade route will be strictly enforced the entire duration of the parade. All road closures and parking restrictions will be lifted as soon as possible when the parade ends, which is typically around 1 p.m.
Road closures include*:
- Spruce Drive at 43 Street: will close at 6 a.m., as the Pidherney Centre serves as the parade staging area. Motorists will be unable to turn right onto 43 St. until after 1 p.m.
- Ross Street westbound at 50A Street: will be closed at approximately 7:45 a.m. Traffic will be diverted through Woodlea to 55 Street.
- 49 Avenue northbound at 45 Street: will be closed at approximately 7:45 a.m., with traffic diverted at 45 Street. To continue northbound, please use Taylor Drive or 55 Street to connect back to 49 Avenue.
- 49 Street eastbound at 51 Avenue: will be closed at approximately 7:45 a.m., traffic will be diverted southbound onto 51 Avenue.
- Barricades will be placed along the parade route, and strictly enforced by 8:30 a.m. in the following locations:
- 47 Avenue at 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 & 50 (Ross) Streets
- 49 Avenue at 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 (Ross), 51, 52, 53 Streets
- 48 Avenue at 53 Street
*See these closures on the road closure map.
We encourage everyone travelling downtown that morning to plan ahead, expect delays, and use alternate routes where possible.
Transit Impacts
During the parade, transit will be rerouted to accommodate road closures and ensure the safety of all riders and parade attendees. The last planned departure from Sorensen Station will be at 8:15 a.m. After that time, a temporary terminal will be set up on 52 Avenue between 47 St. and 48 St. Transit users can visit MyBus to look up schedules, get departure times and see where buses are in real-time.
While our Transit Team is working to reduce any delays caused by detours and traffic volume, please plan for impacts to transfers and arrival times.
Thank you!
We appreciate your patience, planning and cooperation as we come together for this annual celebration. Obeying all signs and barricades helps ensure the safety of volunteers, parade participants, and all the parade spectators, young and old! Let's make this parade a safe, fun and festive event for all.
