Thousands of residents exercised their right to vote for Mayor, City Councillors and School Board Trustees as part of today’s Municipal and School Board Elections.
“Thank you to every voter who took the time to cast a ballot and have your voice heard,” said Returning Officer, Jessica Robinson. “We know line ups were long, and we had many people waiting until well into the evening to cast their ballot. We extend our sincere appreciation to everybody in the community who participated in this election including, but not limited to, the many election workers who have and will continue to work this election until every ballot is counted.”
With polls now closed, ballot processing began tonight. Because Alberta legislation requires all ballots to be counted by hand, the counting process will take more time to complete than in previous elections. Counting shifts will continue throughout the week until all ballots are verified and results are confirmed.
“We do not yet know when results will be available, but we will ensure the community is updated as soon as possible once the ballots are counted,” said Robinson.
Official results will be announced by 12 p.m. (noon) on Friday, October 24 and will be posted to the News section of the election website.
