Red Deer maintaining dedicated non-emergency phone number

(Red Deer, Alberta)

As a part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the Alberta RCMP has launched a non-emergency number in Alberta. This number will allow individuals with non-emergency concerns to dial the same number from anywhere in the province. While this number will be useful for Red Deerians to know when they are outside of Red Deer city limits, Municipal Policing Services, including RCMP, are encouraging residents to continue to use 403-406-2200 for local non-emergency reporting.

“When a call is received through the local police non-emergency line, it is answered by dispatchers at a local level,” says Peter Puszka, Municipal Policing Services Superintendent. “Calls to the provincial number will be directed into the queue at the Provincial RCMP Operations Communications Centre”.

Puszka further indicates “By calling the local non-emergency number, our local Police Communications Operators will quickly address your concerns by dispatching the RCMP, Community Peace Officers, or the Social Diversion Team. In addition, they can assist with triaging your complaint and providing referral to the appropriate agencies

Non-emergencies in Red Deer should continue to be reported using 403-406-2200.

Non-emergency situations are important but do not constitute an emergency, they include:

  • Any situation not posing an immediate or potential threat to life or public safety.
  • Crimes that have already taken place (not in progress).
  • Do not require police presence but do require police assistance.

Residents are directed to use 9-1-1 in emergencies and either 403-406-2200 or the online crime reporting tool for reporting non-emergency complaints.
