(Red Deer, Alberta)At 3:22 p.m. on January 9, 2025, Red Deer Emergency Services (RDES) responded to a reported explosion and fire at 5310 54 Street.
Fire trucks and ambulances were dispatched to the site. Five individuals were transported to hospital, two with critical injuries. Crews are still on scene and are expected to be there for several more hours.
No other buildings were impacted, however nearby residents and businesses experienced a brief power outage to allow RDES to safely extinguish the fire. 54 Avenue and 54 Street will be closed to traffic until further notice.
RDES can confirm the explosion originated inside the building, resulting in a fire. The cause is still under investigation.
