Red Deer RCMP remain focused on impaired drivers

Red Deer, Alta. – In response to National Impaired Driving Prevention week, Red Deer RCMP along with City of Red Deer Community Peace Officers (CPO) remained focused on removing impaired drivers off our city streets.

During the week of Mar. 15-21, 2026, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Services, General Duty (GD) police officers, and City of Red Deer CPOs worked diligently to put a stop to impaired drivers in various parts of the city.

Through proactive traffic enforcement and citizen calls to police, 10 drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol were removed from the roads and now face impaired driving penalties under the Traffic Safety Act.

Several significant and notable results were:

  • One female driver was found to be driving impaired with 3 children inside the vehicle;
  • One male driver was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants out of Calgary, Alta;
  • Between the period of 2 p.m. Mar. 20, 2026 and 10 p.m. Mar. 21, 2026, RCMP issued 22 violation tickets for various vehicle infractions.

On Mar. 21, 2026, RCMP and CPOs conducted a high visibility Check Stop along 30th Ave and Crossley St., in Red Deer, Alta. During a one-hour time frame, approximately 45 vehicles were checked for impairment and adequate documentation. An estimated 25 drivers completed Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS).

As a result of this Check Stop, one driver was found to be driving while suspended. Police were elated to note that not a single driver in the Check Stop was found to be impaired.
