Red Deer, Alta. – On Jan. 14, 2026, Red Deer RCMP Downtown Patrol Unit (DPU) arrested two males and seized weapons and drugs, as a result of pro-active winter mountain bike patrols in the downtown core.
Members of the RCMP DPU were on mountain bikes, patrolling along 47 street in Red Deer, when they observed two males using illicit drugs. The males were arrested, and upon further investigation, police located and seized several items including a replica firearm, bear spray, a large knife, and illicit drugs.
Robert Apetrea, a 39-year-old resident of Red Deer, has been charged with:
- Possession for purpose of trafficking a controlled substance
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x4
- Carry a concealed weapon x4
- Fail to comply with a Probation Order x6
- Fail to comply with a Release Order
Jordan Winnie, a 35-year-old resident of Red Deer, was wanted on outstanding warrants for previous charges and was arrested. Winnie is not facing new charges.
Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Apetrea was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Jan. 16, 2026.
