On July 25, 2024, the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) arrested and charged one male after finding him driving a stolen vehicle.
Members of Red Deer RCMP CRT were making patrols when they observed an SUV that had been reported to police as stolen, being driven by a male. Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) deployed a tire deflation device and police followed the vehicle until it entered a ditch. The male suspect exited the car and ran away. With the assistance of PDS and the Blackfalds RCMP, the male suspect was located and arrested.
Sheldon Cardinal, a 41-year-old resident of Rocky Mountain House, has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of property obtained by crime x3
- Resist peace officer
- Fail to comply with release order x4
Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Cardinal was remanded in custody to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer. His next appearance is scheduled for September 25, 2024.
