Red Deer RCMP investigate fire at Canadian Tire - Update

Red Deer, Alta. – On May 15, 2023, Red Deer RCMP arrested a male for arson in relation to the structure fire that caused significant damage to the Canadian Tire north store.

On May 15, 2023, Red Deer RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS) arrested 43-year old Scott Sumyk of Red Deer, Alta.

Sumyk was charged with Arson, and Theft under $5000.

Sumyk was taken before a justice of the peace and was remanded for his next court appearance set for May 30, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer. 

The Red Deer RCMP would like to extend their appreciation to the public for their assistance and co-operation during this investigation.

April 12, 2023

Red Deer RCMP are searching for an individual who may have information regarding a fire that caused significant damage to the north Canadian Tire store.

On Apr. 5, 2023 at 8:40 pm, RCMP were called to assist Red Deer Emergency Services with the investigation of the fire. It appears the fire likely started inside the store and video surveillance footage helped identify an individual who may have information regarding the fire.

The male individual is believed to be between the ages of 30 and 50 years old. He is seen wearing a grey hoodie, black pants with white lettering on the sides, white high-top shoes, and a black hat with a white Boston Red Sox logo. He is also wearing multiple rings on both hands.
