To improve transparency, share information and report progress on the Strategic Plan, The City of Red Deer has developed a publicly viewable online dashboard featuring more than one hundred indicators.
The dashboard is divided by the three Strategic Plan focus areas: Thriving City, Community Health & Wellbeing and Engaged & Connected City. Each focus areas contains associated outcomes and their respective indicators.
This is the first time The City has developed a formal monitoring and reporting process to measure progress and report back to the community on successes and challenges. In many cases, 2023 was the beginning of this process and therefore baseline data was collected.
“Currently, citizens can view our annual metrics for 2023, and the dashboard will be updated quarterly and annually as new data is submitted on an ongoing basis,” said Tara Lodewyk, City Manager. “Our goal is to increase transparency by sharing the numbers and data that influences municipal decision making.”
A data source for the dashboard was the Citizen Satisfaction Survey, which was conducted in March 2024 for the first time since 2019. Results from this survey are used to gauge satisfaction with services, determine community priorities, and benchmark against previous surveys. Results can be viewed at engage.reddeer.ca.
Along with the release of the dashboard, The City is shifting how it does annual reporting.
“Throughout the year, we will be telling our story of the Strategic Plan by highlighting how we are achieving each outcome, while making tangible connections to how the plan is being lived each and every day in our community,” said Lodewyk. “Currently, we are highlighting the financially responsible outcome, and with the launch of our Budget 2025 engagement program, we invite citizens to use the dashboard to dig into the numbers and share their input on Engage Red Deer.”
