Motorists are advised of upcoming traffic disruptions as crews work to repair arterial roadways throughout the city. The micro-surfacing product applied in previous years are being fixed under the warranty agreement with the contracted service provider.
“As with all roadway construction, micro-surfacing requires favourable conditions throughout the application and curing process. Unfortunately, some work completed last season did not have ideal conditions during curing and have experienced extensive deterioration. The contractor will be returning to repair these sections of roadway in June 2024 at no additional costs to the city as the work is under warranty,” said Lee Birn, Engineering Planning Superintendent for Parks and Public Works.
Including pothole repairs, spray patching, and crack sealing, micro-surfacing is an important preventative maintenance treatment that The City uses to slow down the ongoing wear and tear of Red Deer’s roadways. Micro-surfacing is a thin, yet durable surface treatment used to preserve existing asphalt roadways without the cost and inconvenience of fully removing and replacing the pavement surface.
