Background:

Early this morning, July 18, Red Deer Emergency Services assisted Red Deer County in responding to an industrial chemical fire in the Burnt Lake Industrial Park.

Due to the potentially hazardous materials involved, the Burnt Lake Industrial Park area was evacuated from Poplar Ridge Road to Burnt Bluff Street. While not mandatory, businesses in the Queens Industrial Park are encouraged to evacuate until further notice. Those that choose to remain in the area are instructed to turn off all ventilation systems, close all windows and doors, and remain inside.

RDES is monitoring the situation and will provide updates, however at this time nearby residential areas and QEII traffic are not affected.
