Construction work will begin on the old 55 Street underpass, south of the CPR Pedestrian Bridge on August 14, 2024 in support of the bridge rehabilitation project.
To accommodate future construction access and pathway alignments, the underpass is being removed. Demolition will begin this week and is expected to be completed by September 6, weather dependent. Work will include removing the existing underpass bridge structure, installation of storm infrastructure, site grading and temporary pathway construction.
The CPR Pedestrian bridge will remain open during this time, however access to the bridge from 55 Street will be closed, with pedestrians detoured to Gaetz Avenue. Motorists may experience delays on 55 Street between Gaetz Avenue and 54 Avenue.
Nearby businesses and residents can expect elevated noise levels during demolition. Work will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., in accordance with the City’s noise bylaw. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as this work is completed.
