Following the removal of parking meters and as the next step in The City of Red Deer’s parking infrastructure improvement project, new pay stations will be installed next week in 21 downtown locations.
Pay stations provide another option for downtown users to pay for parking in addition to the HotSpot mobile app and HotSpot website, which is accessed by scanning a QR code on the new fast tap signs.
Multiple payment options are available at the pay stations, including coins, Visa, MasterCard, contactless tap (Visa, MasterCard, Interac), Visa Debit, prepaid Visa and MasterCard gift cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. SmartCard parking cards will also be accepted at the pay stations, but are no longer able to be reloaded and are no longer being sold. Parking customers are not required to display a receipt of payment in their vehicle.
A map of pay station locations is available here.
Staff anticipate one week for installation of the pay stations followed by a week of testing. Warning tickets will be issued starting Monday, October 30 and regular parking enforcement will resume Monday, November 6.
“We know Red Deerians have been anxiously awaiting an update on the arrival of the pay stations and we’re pleased to share this news, along with a timeline on the plans for enforcement,” said Amy Fengstad, Acting Manager of Inspections and Licensing. “Customers are encouraged to download the app, explore the new payment options, and reach out to The City’s parking team for assistance.”
