(Red Deer, Alberta)

The City of Red Deer’s annual Environmental Report to the Community is now available in a new online format.

The report is directly linked to The City’s Environmental Master Plan (EMP) and tracks community progress on each of the goals outlined in the EMP, reinforcing a commitment to these goals and motivating improved performance. Previously the report was a printed document, and this is the first time a full web version is offered.

“Moving from a printed document to a web format is more environmentally responsible and it allows us to update the data for each focus area as soon as it becomes available, making it timelier,” said Phil Boehme, Community Development Coordinator. “It also makes the information available to anyone with internet access, so it helps us to communicate this information to residents in a more accessible way.”

The EMP’s six focus areas include Air, Community Design, Ecology, Energy, Waste, and Water. By visiting reddeer.ca/emp, residents can see goals for each focus area and current information on Red Deer’s progress. Highlights of achievements are also listed, including the launch of an Energy Efficiency Rebate Pilot Program to help residents reduce energy in their homes.

“By making this information easily available to residents, The City hopes to increase interest and engagement in the goals outlined in the EMP,” said Boehme. “We want to work with residents to improve our community’s overall environmental performance.”
