(Red Deer, Alberta)The following decisions were made at today’s City Council meeting.
Tax Cancellation Request (decision):
- Council approved the cancellation of $15,784.85 in taxes for a damaged property, equal to the amount of the municipal portion of the taxes from the time the damage occurred to the end of 2022. As an incentive for the taxpayer to begin remediation, the following conditions were applied to the resolution:
- Property is compliant with Community Standards Bylaws.
- The property owner provides an independent structural engineer report, prepared by an engineer licenced to practice in Alberta by end of day February 16, 2024.
- Repairs or demolition commences by May 31, 2024, with applicable building permits in place.
- Tax relief for this property will not be provided beyond 2022.
The Tax Cancellation Policy provides options for extenuating circumstances that result in a building being destroyed or unusable.
Development Permit - Temporary Shelter (decision):
- The temporary shelter can continue to operate in its current location at Cannery Row (5239 53 Avenue) after City Council approved a new development permit at its regular meeting today. More information here: .
Road Closure Bylaw & Land Use Bylaw Amendment (decision):
- Council has approved an application by Alberta Health Services to close a portion of a lane in the 3800 block between 51 and 52 Avenues and rezone it and a parking lot south of the hospital from road and residential to Public Service (Institutional or Government) District to accommodate a proposed Ambulatory Care Facility.
