Over the coming weeks, Red Deerians will notice the removal of parking meters and installation of new signs in preparation for the launch of HotSpot, The City’s new downtown parking system.
With HotSpot, customers can use a free mobile app, a fast tap sign featuring a quick scan code, or a pay station to pay for parking sessions in on-street stalls and City owned lots. 21 new pay stations will accept coins, Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Interac tap. Pay station delivery was delayed but they are expected to be up and running by early October. To view the pay station locations, visit
“We know change can be intimidating, but we’re confident that HotSpot makes parking easier and more convenient, and we’re excited to bring such a significant upgrade to downtown Red Deer,” said Amy Fengstad, Acting Inspections and Licensing Manager. “We encourage people who work or visit downtown regularly to set up a free HotSpot account before September 18 so they can get acquainted with the interface and save time on their next visit. Anyone who needs assistance is invited to contact us or stop in at City Hall and our staff will be happy to help with the transition to HotSpot.”
Parking rates are not changing with the change to HotSpot, though there are minor changes to some parking zones. Free parking will continue to be available after 4:30 p.m., on weekends and statutory holidays.
