Resulting from a higher than anticipated uptake, the Energy Efficiency Rebate Pilot Program will end October 28, two months earlier than planned. Funds for the program, supported by the utilities, have been depleted due to a high number of applications.
The program was developed to encourage Red Deerians to decrease energy consumption and to support them in improving energy efficiency in their homes. It was launched as a pilot program in September to gauge community interest and work out any potential challenges with its administration.
173 applications have been received by The City to-date, including 66 applications for smart thermostat rebates and 107 applications for high efficiency dishwasher rebates.
“By offering rebates for purchasing energy efficient products The City aims to decrease energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy use, which supports our Environmental Master Plan,” said Phil Boehme. “We’re pleased this pilot program has hit the mark with the community and look forward to providing updates on future plans.”
