Canada Post Strike

The City of Red Deer wishes to minimize the impact of the postal disruption on our customers as much as possible. See below for instructions on how to access your City account information and keep your accounts current.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers have moved from a nation-wide postal strike to rotating strikes. Mail service has resume, but customers should expect delays as Canada Post works to clear the backlog and due to the impact of the rotating strike action.

Expect delays in delivery times, both for mailing items and receiving mail.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Starting October 15, 2025, The City will resume mailing Utility Bills and other invoices, including ambulance bills. Payments are still due on time and deadlines will not be extended.
    • Remember that mailing timelines are likely to be extended so consider alternative ways to pay your Utility Bill (at City Hall or through your financial institution).
  • Regular City correspondence will be mailed through regular mail; urgent mail will be sent by courier.
  • Cheques will continue to be couriered.
  • For the 2025 Municipal Election, Special Ballots must be returned to City Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 20. Voters are encouraged to courier or hand-deliver ballots to City Hall to meet this deadline. For more information, visit the elections website.

How can customers get information about their utility accounts during a mail disruption?

Will The City extend payment deadlines or waive late fee penalties during the mailing disruption?

No. Deadlines will not be extended and penalties will not be waived. It is the customer’s responsibility to pay their utility and property tax bills on time despite a mailing disruption.

How can I pay my City bills and invoices?

Payments are still due on the specified due date, and late payments are subject to penalties even during a mail disruption. Customers can pay their City bills in the following ways:

  • By setting up preauthorized withdrawals via MyCity
  • Through banks and financial institutions
  • Online banking
  • Telephone banking
  • At City Hall between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
    • Accepted forms of payment: cash, cheque, debit
    • If paying by debit, we recommend customers confirm their daily and per transaction limits and processing times to make sure their payment is received by the deadline.
    • Property tax payments may not be made with a credit card.
  • After hours drop boxes at both entrances to City Hall

Payments can be mailed, must be postmarked by the due date indicated on the bill.
