Sports Fields, Diamonds and Courts

Enjoy your favourite outside activities or team sport on one of Red Deer's many outdoor amenities. We have over 150 playing fields ranging from performance level diamonds and fields located at Great Chief Park to diamonds and sport fields that can be booked for use and provide opportunities for groups of all ages and skill levels across a wide range of sports and some that are readily available at no charge.

Woody's Athletic Park

Looking for a track workout? Visit the regulation 400m track at Woody's Athletic Park, located on the grounds of Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.

Sports fields and diamonds are classified by size and level of service. Class A and B fields and diamonds are bookable and larger in size, regularly maintained and most appropriate for developmental sport and tournament. Classes C and D fields and diamonds can be used without booking or charge as these sites receive less regular maintenance, are smaller in size and possibly located within a retention pond.

What type of sports use outdoor facilities?

  • Fields - Soccer, football, field lacrosse, rugby, cricket, quidditch, and ultimate frisbee
  • Diamonds - Baseball, softball, slo-pitch
  • Courts - Tennis, basketball, and pickleball

In addition, there are 34 neighbourhood tennis and basketball courts found throughout the city for casual, recreational use on a first-come, first-serve basis.
