Description
In celebration of the life of Dawnine (DJ) Jackson (June 1967-March 2011)
As you look around and experience activities offered at the Collicutt Centre, much of the success is because of DJ’s hard work and special leadership. She built the aquatics area into a marvel that is admired by municipalities around the province. Her strengths laid in her ability to communicate empathy and express thoughts and feelings while fostering harmony. Because of Dawnine, thousands of people have learned how to swim, become great leaders, been inspired to be better. She wished for truth, love, happiness, and a healthy active lifestyle. Dawnine loved ladybugs and their symbolism was woven throughout her life as she lived for adventure and loved giving tirelessly of herself for a better community.
Did you know that in many cultures ladybugs are considered good luck? So if you find one in your house, garden or on you, consider yourself lucky; good things are coming your way! When ladybugs appear they are a sign from the universe that you are being protected and that you are safe as you work hard to promote yourself and your ideas. Their small size symbolizes a gentle loving nature as they give off energy of harmlessness. DJ would say to be happy in your work and share the joy of your creativity with others.
You will find 43 tiled ladybugs hidden all over the Collicutt Centre as a tribute to Dawnine and everything she valued. Can you discover them all? Go on your own ladybug hunt and get in touch with the joy of living. Conquer your fears and get back to your roots of love, respect and good nature. We are thankful for Dawnine’s leadership and we are better people for having been touched by her loving spirit.
The Ladybug Celebration was donated to The City of Red Deer Public Art Collection by Dawnine’s friends and was made possible through the creative artistry and generosity of Voyager Art & Tile.
