The City of Red Deer’s Emergency Services has reached an agreement with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to continue delivering emergency medical services in Red Deer. This agreement solidifies a partnership aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities and ensuring timely medical assistance to those in need.

“This partnership underscores the commitment of both entities to prioritize the health and safet of our community,” says Chief Ken McMullen, RDES. “The collaborative approach helps strengthen the resources in Red Deer while leveraging the expertise of our dedicated firemedics.”

With the two-and-a-half year contract, Emergency Services has added three more ambulances to compliment the current five ambulances providing 24-hour service. These additional ambulances will operate during daytime peak hours, which will help alleviate pressure on staff operating ambulances during the busiest times of day.

“There has been a lot of collaborative discussion about what our EMS crews need and we were pleased with the solutions AHS and RDES were able to identify,” says Chief McMullen. “Ultimately, we are confident that Red Deer residents will get the timely EMS response the need, when they need it.”

Signed on April 25, 2024, the contract also provides the option for an additional two-and-a-half year extension.
