Street sweepers moving into residential areas next week

May 12, 2023 4:11 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Residential Street Sweeping will begin on May 15, as crews have completed sweeping medians and boulevards throughout the city.

Crews Will also sweep Zone D, the downtown area, on May 14, 2023, and Parks crews are also out sweeping sidewalks and trails throughout the city. Pedestrians and motorists are asked to be cautious around street and sidewalk sweeping equipment by staying at least three car lengths away to avoid injury or damage from flying debris.

As always, we ask residents to help by moving their cars off the roads before we come in.

“Street sweeping is an important step to keeping winter road debris from entering local waterbodies,” said Doug Halldorson, Roads Superintendent. “In order for sweepers to get all debris off the street, we need vehicles moved to off-street parking. Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed and towed to an adjacent road at the owner’s expense.”

Sweepers will begin sweeping on Grey Routes in Zone J and K and continue alphabetically through zones. When all Grey Routes are complete, they will repeat the schedule for Green Routes.

The tentative schedule for street sweeping is:

  • Sunday, May 14 to Thursday, May 18
  • Tuesday, May 23 to Friday, May 26
  • May 28 to Thursday, June 1
