Kidz Curbside Connections coming to a neighbourhood near you

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Red Deer’s new Kidz Curbside Connections program will visit 16 neighbourhoods this summer to offer free activities and resources to families with young children.

The City of Red Deer is teaming up with McMan Family Resource Network, Red Deer Childcare, Family Services of Central Alberta and the Red Deer Native Friendship Society to offer a new summer program designed to connect families with young children ages 0-6 with early childhood development resources and offer fun, safe activities.

“Neighbourhood connections and local support are important for young families, now more than ever,” said Bobby-Jo Stannard, Social Planning Supervisor. “The Kidz Curbside Connections program will offer young families early childhood development resources, fun, free activities, and an opportunity to connect with new people in their neighbourhood, in a safe way.”

Kidz Curbside Connections program will visit two neighbourhoods each week over eight weeks, for a total of 16 neighbourhoods over the summer. Events are completely free to attend and families will be offered a free, take-home activity kit for their enjoyment. Measures will be in place to ensure the safety of all attendants.

“We are asking residents to only attend the event in their own neighbourhood, or the neighbourhood closest to them, to help minimize broader community interactions,” said Stannard. “We have selected activities to minimize common touch points and will ask that all attendants practice physical distancing.”

Events will run from 3 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in July and August. All events will run outdoors and are weather dependent.

The first event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7 at the Bower Community Association, located at 85 Boyce Street. Future event dates and locations will be shared on the City website and social media pages as they are confirmed.

More information about the event, as well as dates and locations, are available on the City website at reddeer.ca/kidzconnect.
