New pedestrian bridge for Coronation Park

July 16, 2018 9:33 AM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

The pedestrian bridge crossing Waskasoo Creek in Coronation Park will be replaced this summer. Work is scheduled to begin July 25, 2018 with an estimated completion date of August 30, 2018.

Although the existing bridge does not pose any immediate risk, it received a low structural condition rating in the 2013 Waskasoo Park Bridge Structural Review, which is a detailed structural review of 26 pedestrian-type bridges in the Waskasoo Park system. As such, Parks has decided to replace the bridge to ensure user safety and the long-term sustainability of the trail in that part of the Waskasoo Park system.

The replacement bridge will use sustainable materials and mimic the design of the South Bridge replaced in the Park in 2015. Detours will be in effect, with users able to cross Waskasoo Creek by the main road on 55 Street or by the South Coronation Park pedestrian bridge located between 45 Avenue and 46 Avenue.

Residents are reminded to obey posted signage and remain a safe distance away from the area during the construction. Estimated completion time for the project is two to three weeks.
